My name is Sage. I am a 22 year-old American female from Scottsdale, Arizona but I currently live in Rubona, Rwamagana, Rwanda as part of a year-long fellowship as the Monitoring, Evaluation, Assessment, & Learnings fellow at a local nonprofit. Like every other person living with a mental illness, I’m multifaceted and my mental illness is only a small component of my identity. I’m a hiker, traveler, foodie, and politics junkie. However, this blog will focus on my journey living with Bipolar Affective Disorder (BPAD), how I manage it abroad, and my commentary on the different societal burdens and stigmas that come with the diagnosis of a Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
